What it is
The 180 RPM optical encoder motor Makeblock uses in the mBot2 chassis. The optical encoder is what lets the robot drive a measured distance and turn a measured angle — without it, every program that relies on precise movement drifts.
When to replace
Symptoms of a failing motor: the robot veers on what should be a straight line, one wheel stalls under load, or the encoder count jumps. On a class set, expect to replace a few per year per 30 robots.
