The DJI Agras T50 is a multi-rotor agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) built specifically for large-scale crop treatment — spraying liquid agrochemicals or spreading granular materials such as fertilizer or seed. It is one of the most widely deployed drones in its category globally.

Spray and spread system

The T50 carries either a 40 L liquid spray tank or a 50 kg spread hopper, making it capable of handling both wet and dry field inputs without a separate platform. Liquid is delivered through dual atomizing sprinklers that break the chemical into fine, consistent droplets across a 4–11 m adjustable spray width. Under standard operating conditions, the system achieves a treatment rate of up to ~52 acres per hour — a throughput that typically takes multiple ground-rig passes or manual labor far longer to complete, and without the soil compaction and wheel-track crop damage that a tractor introduces.

Terrain awareness and obstacle sensing

Maintaining a consistent spray height over rolling or irregular farmland is critical for even chemical distribution. The T50 addresses this with a front-and-rear phased-array radar system combined with binocular vision cameras. Phased-array radar reads surface elevation continuously and adjusts rotor output to hold a stable altitude above the crop canopy, while the vision system detects obstacles such as trees, power lines, or structures. Together they allow the drone to follow the actual ground profile — not just a pre-set GPS altitude — which keeps the spray pattern controlled and reduces drift onto non-target areas.

Autonomous mission execution

Once a field boundary is mapped, the T50's onboard flight controller generates an optimized spray route, executes it autonomously, and manages the return-to-base sequence when the tank empties or the battery depletes. After a refill and battery swap, it resumes the mission from the point it left off, minimizing overlap and missed strips. This loop — map, fly, refill, resume — is the core operational workflow for professional drone-spraying contractors and large farm operations.
